Board of Regents to review enrollment plans for four campuses

After a visit to the West Bank of the Twin Cities campus on Thursday, March 7, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents will meet on Friday, March 8, focusing on the enrollment plans for the Crookston, Duluth, Morris and Rochester campuses.

The Board will review a resolution to endorse the undergraduate enrollment plans for the four University campuses. The plans highlight the unique identities and strengths of each campus and focus on four key strategies: redirecting the out-migration of Minnesota high school students to neighboring states, increasing enrollment from growing but underrepresented populations, continuing recruitment efforts for out-of-state students and enhancing collaboration across all five University campuses.   

The Board approved a five-year enrollment plan for the Twin Cities campus in March 2016 and directed University administrators to develop similar plans for the system campuses.

The Board discussed enrollment planning on the Morris campus in December 2017, the Crookston campus in February 2018, the Duluth campus in December 2018 and the Rochester campus in February 2019. The resolution to endorse those plans is under review in March and is expected to come before the Board for action in May.

Twin Cities campus visit

On Thursday, the Board will visit the Carlson School of Management, the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and the Law School with a focus on engaging with the students and faculty of professional programs in those schools. Each of the schools will engage the Board around their unique programs, meeting student needs and workforce demands, experiential learning, and outreach and community engagement efforts.

Board visits to campuses, colleges, outreach centers and institutes are planned each year to inform the Board about the University and facilitate interactions with students, faculty and staff across the system. These visits provide first-hand information and context to assist Regents in carrying out their governance responsibilities.

The Board is also expected to:

  • Review historical building names, including a discussion of the report of the Task Force on Building Names and Institutional History and President Eric Kaler’s preliminary recommendations regarding four building names on the Twin Cities campus.
  • Hear the annual report of the student representatives to the Board of Regents, which addresses three focus areas: sustainability efforts across the system, the importance of mental health and campus climate.
  • Take action on the proposed acquisition and financing of the University Village property located at 2515 University Avenue SE, Minneapolis, a mixed-use residential and retail space.
