Enhancing dairy farm profitability

Joleen Hadrich is finding ways to combine animal health, production, and farm financial data to help dairy farmers create more profitable and sustainable operations.

“Traditionally, we use financial data or we use animal health data to do a lot of our dairy economics work,” says Hadrich, a CFANS associate professor and U of M Extension specialist funded by the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Tech Transfer program (AGREETT). “Through my research, I always ask the question, ‘Why don’t we combine those two data sets?’ Farmers have all kinds of data in individual spots and it hasn’t been put together to make comprehensive management systems.”
