‘I like to visualize progress’
Even as a child, Jean-Marcel Njokou loved working with his hands and making models of buildings.
“I like to visualize progress, and I love to see things come together,” he says. “Choosing to work in construction has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.”
Njokou is the first recipient of the new JE Dunn Scholarship, established for construction management majors in the U of M’s College of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Originally from Cameroon, Njokou moved to Minnesota in 2010. “I started working for a local construction company as a laborer,” he says. “I developed a passion for the field and decided to pursue a career in construction.”
Njokou likes that the U of M’s program teaches many different aspects of the construction industry. “It makes me feel confident that I’ll easily find a job.” In fact, the JE Dunn Scholarship is helping him join the rank of professionals with skills to revolutionize the industry.
“It is because of this scholarship that I will be able to make a difference in the world of construction,” he says.
