University of Minnesota improves its standing in 2024 global Shanghai Rankings

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities continues to be recognized as a global leader with the release of Shanghai Ranking’s 2024 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. Of the 48 subjects ranked at the University, 29 moved up in the rankings this year, and a total of 36 subjects ranked among the top 100 in the world. 

“Seeing the University of Minnesota rise in the Shanghai Ranking across multiple disciplines is a recognition of many people’s devoted efforts to advance research, discovery and creative activity that enriches our understanding and builds a better world,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Rachel Croson. “We applaud this recognition, even as we continue our efforts to address our future’s most pressing challenges.” 

The U of M ranked in the top 25 globally in 10 subjects, including ecology (ranked No. 2 in the world), psychology (No. 8), medical technology (No. 11), communication (No. 11), veterinary sciences (No. 14), library & information science (No. 14), education (No. 21), economics (No. 22), statistics (No. 23), and management (No. 23).

The 2024 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects includes more than 1,900 universities across 96 countries and regions that are ranked using a variety of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure performance.
