Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates has been selected to assist with the search for the 17th president of the University of Minnesota.
Storbeck/Pimentel is a national firm with deep experience in the higher education field. Led by Shelly Storbeck and Alberto Pimentel, the firm is among the nation’s largest woman- and minority-owned executive search firms.
“The Board's responsibility to select a president to lead this great institution is our highest and most important duty,” said Board Chair David McMillan. “Storbeck/Pimentel—with its deep experience in higher education and strong commitment to diversity—will help ensure a thoughtful and thorough search process. We are committed to engaging with students, faculty, staff and other University and Minnesota stakeholders throughout the search process.”
During a special meeting of the Board today, Regents discussed the challenges facing higher education and the leadership characteristics necessary to meet them.
In addition, Alberto Pimentel, who will serve as the lead consultant on the search, outlined the proposed search process. “It is an honor to assist in the search for the next president of the University of Minnesota,” said Pimentel. “We are dedicated to establishing a robust and diverse candidate pool.”
The Board will establish a Presidential Search Advisory Committee to narrow the field of candidates to a group of semi-finalists for Board consideration. The committee will include representatives from the Board, faculty, staff, students, alumni and the broader University and Minnesota communities. Nominations may be submitted online at president-search.umn.edu/search-committee through 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 15. The Board will formally ratify committee membership and its charge at its September meeting.
The Board’s contract with Storbeck/Pimentel includes a flat $200,000 professional fee, excluding expenses.
