Dance team, Goldy elite again

The U of M dance team performs.

Once you get past three-peat, the words get pretty awkward to describe the dominance of the U’s dance team. Eight-peat?

The U of M’s spirit squads—and Goldy Gopher—were dominant on the national stage once again at the recent UCA & UDA College Cheerleading And Dance Team National Championship in Orlando.

The U dance team led the way in claiming two more national championships. The Gophers won their eighth straight Pom title and are still the only team in the history of the UDA to win the Pom division. The dance team finished first in Jazz, as well, after finishing second a year ago.

Minnesota’s third national championship was won by its most recognizable figure, as Goldy Gopher was again judged to be the best mascot in the nation after finishing second last season. Minnesota’s lovable mascot is a multi-time national champion.

The Gophers all-girl cheer team finished fifth, while co-ed ended the competition in 13th place.
