A total of 82 Golden Gopher student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Big Ten selections for the winter season for their success in the classroom. To be eligible for the honor, athletes must be letter winners in at least their second academic year and carry a career GPA of 3.0 or better.

The list of Minnesota student-athletes who received the conference accolade includes two men's and five women's basketball players, seven men's and seven women's gymnasts, 13 men's hockey players, 24 men's and 16 women's swimmers and divers, and eight wrestlers.

Jessica Plant, a senior swimmer and classical civilization major, received special recognition when she was named one of eight Big Ten winter-sport student-athletes that have maintained a 4.0 GPA.

The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the fall and spring seasons and will present the Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the academic year. Student-athletes eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be letter winners in at least their second year in residence at their institution. Qualifying student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school.

The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award was established by conference faculty representatives as an addition to the conference's Academic All-Big Ten program.
