Introduction

Jakub Tolar, MD, Ph.D., is dean of the University of Minnesota Medical School and a Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Department of Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation. He is a member of the graduate faculty of the Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology (MICaB) Program, the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Genetics (MCDB&G) Program, and the Stem Cell Biology (SCB) Program.

Tolar has a clinical practice through the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital, and his interests include educating and mentoring new physicians.

Tolar's research focuses on finding new ways of treating children with lethal diseases—cancer, inborn errors of metabolism, and devastating genetic disorders—using stem cell transplantation. 

Tolar is active in many professional societies, and is a strong advocate for cooperation and communication within the clinical and research communities.
