University of Minnesota student-athletes have posted a program-record 93 percent graduation rate, as measured by the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate (GSR). This mark was a one percent increase from last year and three percent from the previous year.
This year's GSR, which focuses on the six-year cohort who came to the U as freshman in 2011, is 25 points higher than that first GSR from 13 years ago. Minnesota's 93 GSR rate is tied for second in the Big Ten with Michigan. Northwestern leads the conference at 98 percent.
"[This] GSR news is another clear validation that our student-athletes are achieving success at the highest level academically,” says Athletics Director Mark Coyle. “It will always be our priority for Gopher student-athletes to graduate and leave campus prepared for life after college. Our students work extremely hard in the classroom, and I appreciate their dedication to academics. I also appreciate our coaches and academic staff and their continued desire to see our students excel."
Graduation Success Rates for all 11 Gopher women's programs were 89 percent or higher. Six programs were a perfect 100 percent in the latest report: basketball, gymnastics, hockey, soccer, softball, and tennis. Eight men's programs achieved GSRs of 88 percent or higher and six were above 90 percent, led by tennis and gymnastics (100 percent).
