The Gopher soccer team won the 2016 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 victory at home over Rutgers on November 7. It was the second tournament title in program history (1995, 2016), and the first time Minnesota has won both the regular season and tournament titles. The Gophers' record moves to 16-3-3 on the season.
“For this team to set their sights on these goals, and accomplish them is huge.” head coach Stefanie Golan said. “We definitely will enjoy this win. I'm proud of the heart shown by this team."
With the Big Ten tourney title, the Gophers have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Minnesota will host NC State in the first round of the NCAA tourney on Saturday, November 12, at 7 p.m. at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
“We’re going to be preparing for the NCAA Tournament, we definitely want wins there,” said Stiever.
