Statement on Ashley Hasti

Yesterday, law enforcement officials released that a victim was discovered in Brooklyn Park, Minn., in connection to the murder-suicide the day before on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner today identified the deceased as Ashley Hasti. Ashley was a student in the University of Minnesota Medical School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Asian Languages and Literature from the College of Liberal Arts in 2008.

The following statement is from Danita Brown Young, Ph.D., vice provost for student affairs and dean of students:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ashley Hasti, a Medical School student and College of Liberal Arts alumna. Our thoughts are with Ashley’s family, friends, classmates, and others in the University community who are grieving. We also extend condolences to the family and friends of UCLA Professor William Klug, as well as the UCLA community.

“Counseling and support services for any University students, faculty and staff who may need it continue to be available. Counselors at Boynton Health and Student Counseling Services are available for in-person, individual appointments. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. A U of M, 24/7 crisis line can be reached at 612-301-4673.”
