Staying at the leading edge of agriculture

College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences Dean Brian Buhr talks about how the University of Minnesota is helping steer the evolution of agriculture.

Our state and our world depend on bountiful and safe sources of food. At the same time, the nation’s agriculture industry faces unprecedented levels of volatility, ranging from market forces and weather variability to disease pressures for both crops and livestock.

The University of Minnesota, through its College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), continues to be at the leading edge of research and discovery in agriculture. In this video, CFANS Dean Brian Buhr talks about challenges facing the ag industry, how the U of M’s integrated science (including technology and big data) is shaping increased production, and the importance of state and federal funding—and public and private partnerships—to our research mission.

Buhr also notes the University of Minnesota’s profound impact on agriculture through the work of Nobel Peace Prize winner Norman Borlaug, and hopes a similar occurrence is just around the corner from the next generation of ag leaders.
