In the spirit of school pride and community service, Golden Gophers across the globe, along with their friends and families, will participate in the fifth annual University of Minnesota Day of Service on Saturday, Sep. 29. The U of M Alumni Association (UMAA) offers the event each year at the request of alumni who want opportunities to serve their local communities together.
“U of M alumni are talented and want to give back,” said Lisa Lewis, President and CEO of the UMAA. “The Day of Service is a unique opportunity for them to don their maroon and gold and serve their local communities as one Gopher family. The Alumni Association is proud to host this event.”
Eighteen group events will be offered throughout the Twin Cities, with 13 more taking place in cities across the country and the globe ranging from New York City to Los Angeles, and even Tokyo. In addition, a number of service projects performed by individuals will take place in various cities. Participants will volunteer at food banks; distribute personal care items to veteran patients; pickup trash; plant trees; landscape; and much more. Many of the activities offered are open to family participation.
