On Thursday, May 7 the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents will host a public forum to hear from the University community and public regarding the development of an action and implementation plan to strengthen human subjects research practices at the University.
The forum will take place from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 in the Boardroom on the sixth floor of the McNamara Alumni Center, 200 Oak St. S.E., Minneapolis.
Speakers must sign up between 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. in the Boardroom and will be called upon in order, with three minutes to make comments. Only individuals who have signed up prior to the forum will be able to address the Board. Written comments may be submitted in advance to [email protected] and will be shared with the Board.
For those not able to attend in person, the forum will be live streamed on the Regents website. A recording will be immediately available following the forum.
The action plan, currently being formed by an implementation team, is due to U of M President Eric Kaler on May 15. Led by Dr. William Tremaine, M.D., chair of the Mayo Clinic Institutional Review Board, the implementation team includes internal and external members selected by University leadership and the Faculty Senate. The team is charged with implementing recommendations from an external review initiated by the U’s faculty and administration in 2013. The external review recommendations also formed the basis of the primary recommendations recently released by the Legislative Auditor.
