U of M celebrates Homecoming week with “Gopher Glory”

Since 1914, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities has celebrated Homecoming, a week dedicated to honoring the spirit of the maroon and gold. This year’s theme, “Gopher Glory” celebrates school spirit by allowing students to share their Gopher pride and achievements while encouraging the campus community to get involved and share in the Homecoming experience.

Some of the media-friendly activities include:

Monday, October 17

Party on the Plaza: 5:30–7:30 p.m. Coffman Memorial Union, Front Plaza. Students celebrate the start of Homecoming with a Golden Gopher Pep Fest. The event will include live performances by Cheat Codes, U of M Marching Band and Spirit Squad, as well as prizes and a bags tournament.

Thursday, October 20

St. Paul Corn Roast: 2–5 p.m. St. Paul Campus Mall. New this year, the St. Paul Corn Roast features food and entertainment for all. Guests can enjoy hot, fresh corn on the cob, yard games, outdoor yoga presented by CorePower Yoga, music and more.

Friday, October 21

Homecoming Parade: 6:30 p.m. University Avenue. Created to encourage school spirit, the Homecoming Parade promotes unity among students, staff, faculty, alumni and the surrounding community. This year’s parade route is down University Avenue. Watch the parade between 12th Avenue Southeast and Walnut Street Southeast or in the Family Viewing Area. The Family Viewing Area is located at the Donhowe Building parking lot on University, just west of 15th Avenue Southeast, and will feature on-site restrooms, and free face painting, hot chocolate, games and giveaways beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Homecoming Concert: 7:30 p.m. TCF Bank Stadium. The 2016 Homecoming Concert features performances by Kesha and Jidenna. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., concert begins at 8:20 p.m. $25 University of Minnesota Twin Cities student; $45 General Public. Tickets are now available.

Saturday, October 22

Ski-U-Mania: 8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. McNamara Alumni Center. Join alumni, fans and students before the Homecoming football game for a party featuring food from D'Amico, crowning of the Homecoming queen and king, Goldy, the Spirit Squad and more.

Homecoming Football Game: 11:00 a.m.  TCF Bank Stadium. Cheer on the Gophers as they gear up to defeat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
