U of M opens new track and field stadium

A stack of track and field hurdles

The University of Minnesota and Gopher Athletics celebrated a new era of track and field on Sept. 17 with the grand opening of the University of Minnesota Track and Field Stadium.

The new stadium will give the Golden Gopher program its first opportunities in more than 15 years to host home meets, including Big Ten and NCAA competition. Located in the heart of the new Athletes Village area, this facility will become synonymous with track & field excellence in the Midwest. It will not only provide a first-class experience for the athletes who compete for Minnesota, it will also provide a wonderful venue for the state's largest amateur meets and a Minnesota option for USA Track and Field to place its marquee events in the Upper Midwest.

"This facility represents a new beginning for Minnesota track and field," says Matt Bingle, director of track and field and cross country. "This is our new home, and this is where our family will be for a long time."
