Weisman gets straightened out

The Weisman Art Museum, after being straightened out.

Under cover of darkness last night, persons unknown descended on the University of Minnesota’s Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum and straightened it out.

The perpetrators released a communiqué justifying their actions vis à vis the iconic structure on the Mississippi River.

“Art is a serious and dignified endeavor,” wrote writer Phil S. Tine. “But the Weisman stood against that. Look at Frank Gehry’s original design—it implies that art can be whimsical and playful and not take itself seriously.

“The Weisman is home to noble works of art, such as paintings by Marsden Hartley and Georgia O’Keeffe, traditional Korean furniture, Mimbres pottery, and the Pedicord Apts. The museum’s inner sublimity deserves an outer solemnity. We were driven to set it straight.”
