University of Minnesota Twin Cities to celebrate 104th Homecoming Week

Since 1914, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities has celebrated Homecoming, a week dedicated to honoring the spirit of the maroon and gold. Now, a 104 years later, the tradition continues.

Saturday, September 29
Day of Service: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., East River Flats Park. Student volunteers will maintain rain gardens by removing invasive plant species that have taken over and are outcompeting native plant varieties. Volunteers will also pick up trash. Mississippi Park Connection and the National Park Service will provide all tools and gloves.
 
Monday, October 1
Party on the Plaza: 6 p.m., Coffman Memorial Union, Front Plaza. Students celebrate the start of Homecoming with a Golden Gopher Pep Fest. The event will include free food (while supplies last), prizes and tailgate activities.
 
Tuesday, October 2
Saint Paul Blood Drive: 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Saint Paul Student Center, Northstar Ballroom. The University's Student Unions & Activities is partnering with the American Red Cross for the Homecoming 2018 Blood Drive on the Saint Paul campus.

Wednesday, October 3
Minneapolis Blood Drive: 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Coffman Memorial Union, Great Hall. In partnership with the American Red Cross, the University's Student Unions & Activities is hosting a Homecoming 2018 Blood Drive on the Minneapolis campus.

Polar Plunge: 5 p.m., TCF Bank Stadium Plaza. Teams and individuals will take part in the Polar Plunge, Gopher Style. All money raised will support Special Olympics Minnesota.

Thursday, October 4
Corn Roast: 3 p.m., Saint Paul Mall. The St. Paul Corn Roast features food and entertainment for all. Guests can enjoy hot, fresh corn on the cob, yard games and more.
 
Lip Sync Competition: 7 p.m., Coffman Memorial Union, Front Plaza. Students will compete on stage in a lip sync competition by demonstrating their dancing and singing, or fake singing, skills.
 
Friday, October 5
Homecoming Parade: 6:30 p.m., University Avenue SE. Created to encourage school spirit, the Homecoming Parade promotes unity among students, staff, faculty, alumni and the surrounding community. Justice Alan C. Page will serve as Grand Marshal for the parade. Watch the parade between 12th Avenue Southeast and Walnut Street Southeast or in the Family Activity Area (at the Donhowe Building parking lot on University, just west of 15th Avenue Southeast), which will feature on-site restrooms, free face painting, coloring activities, games and giveaways beginning at 6 p.m.
 
Homecoming Concert: TCF Bank Stadium. The 2018 Homecoming Concert features performances by Steve Aoki and Bea Miller. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the concert beginning at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $25 for U of M Twin Cities students and $40 for the general public. Tickets are now available
 
Saturday, October 6
Ski-U-Mania: 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., McNamara Alumni Center. Join alumni, fans and students before the Homecoming football game for a party featuring food from D'Amico, crowning of the Homecoming Royalty, Goldy, the Spirit Squad and more. President Eric Kaler, Head Women’s Basketball Coach Lindsay Whalen and Alumni Association President and CEO Lisa Lewis will be in attendance. Homecoming Football Game: 2:30 p.m., TCF Bank Stadium. Cheer on the Gophers as they gear up to defeat the Hawkeyes. The contest will be Minnesota's 98th Homecoming game and the 14th Homecoming game against the University of Iowa. Tickets are on sale now.
