The University of Minnesota Twin Cities will welcome thousands of freshman and new transfer students over the course of four weeks during this year’s Weeks of Welcome.

Weeks of Welcome is an extension of the University’s traditional Welcome Week program and was developed in partnership with more than 75 University departments. It was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support students in connecting virtually with the goal of creating a sense of belonging. Over four weeks — from Monday, August 10, to Monday, September 7 — students will engage with a student leader, have opportunities to connect with other incoming students, and learn more about the University, along with the different resources that campus offers.

Every Monday, freshmen will meet with their small group via Canvas, which is led by an upperclass Welcome Week leader. Each week will have a different theme revolving around instilling collegiate pride and excitement, navigating the campus and its many resources, as well as engaging students with the campus and each other. As students complete various Weeks of Welcome activities, they will earn digital badges, which will enter them into prize giveaways.

While events like Pride & Spirit have been postponed until larger gatherings can safely take place, Convocation — the official welcome ceremony for freshmen and transfer students — will be held on Monday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m. President Gabel will deliver remarks to the incoming class via Kaltura.
