Blowing the whistle on the referee shortage

A nationwide shortage of referees is forcing game cancellations or postponements. To alleviate the situation, 2022 computer science graduate Wyatt Gustafson co-created Refr Sports, an app that helps connect sports organizations and referees.

Through Refr Sports, organizations can upload their game schedules and pay offers for each game, and referees can search for games, pay, and schedules that fit their needs. The app won the student division of the 2022 Minnesota Cup entrepreneurship competition.

The video below, from the College of Science and Engineering, also has some tidbits about why computer science appealed to an entrepreneur like Gustafson.
