Gophers reach new high for academic success

University of Minnesota student-athletes have recorded the highest team grade-point averages in school history, according to information released recently by the John & Nancy Lindahl Academic Center (LAC).

All 21 teams are above a 3.20 GPA for both the fall semester and for their cumulative GPAs. Never before has Minnesota had all teams at that mark either for the semester or for their cumulative GPA.

"I continue to be incredibly impressed by the fantastic work accomplished by our student-athletes and LAC staff," says Lindahl Academic Center director JT Bruett. "It also underscores the tremendous support shown by our campus partners, the athletic administration, and the coaches."

Overall, the fall semester GPA was 3.37, which was the highest non–Covid semester GPA ever. The six best grade point averages in department history have now come in the last seven semesters.

The cumulative GPA is currently at 3.41, marking the fifth straight semester that the cumulative GPA has been at least that high.
