Gophers score well with B1G academic honors

A total of 144 University of Minnesota student-athletes were honored on the Academic All-Big Ten Team for spring and at-large sports, the conference announced on May 31. The Gophers totaled 299 Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2016-17 academic year. 

Women’s track & field led all Minnesota sports with 30 accolades, followed by women’s rowing with 24, men’s track & field with 21, and baseball with 18. Women’s hockey featured 17 award winners, while softball had nine and men’s tennis and men’s golf recorded seven each. Women’s tennis notched six award winners and women’s golf rounded out the Gophers award winners with five. A total of 10 Minnesota programs boasted Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the spring and at-large sports. 

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be letter winners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
