Since his freshman year, biomedical engineering senior Anant Naik has been involved with Engineers Without Borders (EWB).
His interest in the public health component of the organization prompted his trip with a group of engineers to Yulo, a rural village in the Bolivian Andes. There they worked to secure the sustainable transportation of water from a spring to the community.
After this experience, Anant focused on leadership roles in the organization, serving as the fundraising officer and later as president, overseeing the start of its new Ethiopia program and the closeout of its Uganda program. Lately, Naik has coordinated the research program in EWB and worked to ensure training and mentorship of younger board members.
Naik’s efforts in EWB have not gone unnoticed. In February he received the Outstanding Community Service Award, the highest honor the University gives to a student for service to the community.
