University of Minnesota students now have the opportunity to enroll in a unique, semester-long program at any U of M campus. The new program, called “Study Away,” packages courses in a particular program area for students interested in expanding their education and experiencing the state of Minnesota.
“This is an important step in the collaboration of our academic programming across the system and we believe an important and exciting scholarly opportunity for our students,” says U of M president Eric Kaler.
The University has campuses in the Twin Cities, as well as in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester. Each location offers something special.
For example, a student interested in going to veterinary school someday may want to spend a semester on the Crookston campus studying animal science.
A student interested in a health care career may be interested in spending a semester in Rochester, interning at the Mayo Clinic and taking courses in the health sciences.
Meanwhile, the Morris campus offers a nationally renowned liberal arts experience with high-caliber faculty who prepare students to be global citizens, and in Duluth students can connect to the environment in the classroom as well as on hiking trails or the shores of Lake Superior.
The Twin Cites campus will offer two Study Away programs—in Social Justice and in Food Science and Systems.
Like an international study abroad experience, Study Away packages courses in a particular program area for students interested in expanding their education and experiencing a different system campus.
Students will be able to enroll in the program beginning in the spring semester of 2017.
