Homecoming 2019

The U of M Marching Band plays on the steps of Northrop on Sept. 20.

Homecoming 2019 is upon us! Gone are the politically incorrect button slogans describing what the Gophers should do to their Big Ten opponent on the football field. But fully alive are the rich traditions and perennially favorite events that draw thousands of alumni back to campus and make everyone proud to be a Gopher.

This year, it all kicked off with the Alumni Association’s Day of Service on Sept. 28, when U of M alumni and friends gave back to their community in a day of gratitude and service. And it ends with another kickoff, as the Golden Gophers host Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 5, at TCF Bank Stadium.

There are many more events spread throughout the week, and here are just a few highlights.

Party on the Plaza, Sept. 30, 6 p.m. — It’s the ultimate pep fest: Party on the Plaza! Enjoy free food, prizes, and tailgate activities, as well as performances from the U of M Marching Band, Spirit Squad, Goldy, and more. Bring in an old t-shirt that reps a different school and trade it in for some fresh maroon and gold, while supplies last.

Blood drives, Oct. 2, 10 a.m. — Join Student Unions & Activities as we partner with the American Red Cross for the Homecoming Blood Drives. Save up to three lives with your donation (and get a free t-shirt and Insomnia Cookies coupon at check-in as a thank you). Register.

Gopher Grill Out, Oct. 3, 11 a.m. — Join in on the newest and tastiest Homecoming tradition! Swing by the mall in Saint Paul for free food (while supplies last), yard games, and more.

Homecoming Parade, Oct. 4, 6:30 p.m. — This yearly favorite brings together thousands of past, current, and future Gophers to celebrate with the U of M Marching Band, departments, student groups, and more! Michele Brekke will serve as the grand marshal. Find your viewing hot spot along University Avenue from 12th Avenue SE to Walnut Street.

Ski-U-Mania, Oct. 5, 11:30 a.m. — Ring in Homecoming at the premier pre-game party for alumni and fans that features the coronation of the Homecoming Royalty. This is a ticketed event hosted by the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. Register.
